A Paler Shade of Yellow
Larry Lee at Kirk’s ApartmentOpening Reception Friday, Nov 4, 6pm.
Through Nov 18th by appoitment—
Ten years ago in the future is supposed to be a better tomorrow. But it somehow feels the same…
Like when Sifu was yellow but not green. And launched many an orb skyward, way over eighty-six inches tall. Or the time as a grasshopper who escaped, incognito, from past transgressions in violation of the laws of gravity. So that invisible nations licking their wounds rose up to avenge the myriad wrongs. Fists of fury that spoke Zarathustra flying in mid-air.
Yet, those were halcyon times.
They looked up and saw a brave new world spinning crazily off its axis. Sooner than later, someone would rescue them. A hero, perhaps, who can transcend the ordinary to play against death in a winner-take-all game. The world then needed hope as it does now.
So head East, young masters and go far. -

Tim Schade Goes Country
Oct 22 – Nov 12 by appt
Welcome back this fall to Kirk’s Apartment, where we start off the season with the bang of a pistoleer’s gun. Try to follow with your eyes that bullet as it traces the curvature of the earth and sinks itself into the heart of the setting sun.It is in this direction that we forever strive to run, heroic in our determination to finally escape something, against all odds.
It is in the West we find hope for something worth witnessing. For all that is big and lonesome and good.
We are proud to present Tim Schade Goes Country.
Please join us for our opening reception, from High Noon till Sundown,
Saturday, October the 22nd, presented offsite at 3706 N Wolcott.(photo by Diego Leclery)

850K: Joe Mault at Kirk’s Apartment (release)
Joe Mault is a heavy hitter.
Joe Mault is an artist.
Joe Mault’s work is sculptural.
It’s meant to wow, to have affect, to dazzle, to offend.
Joe’s materials are raw and caustic.
Joe’s materials are stilted linguistics.
This show will blind you.
This show will be hard to look at.
This show will be offensively clean.
This show will ask you to take a second look and reread the information provided.
There are hints of minimalism but form is overtaken by objecthood and sensory overload.
This show is a Jeanne Claude Venn Diagram of spectacle and stilted communication. This coming Friday, April 15th, Joe Mault’s solo show, 850K will open at Kirk’s Apartment. The work in this show explores language, communication, the cleanly and the corrosive. Using strong materials from fluorescent bulbs to bleach and plastic Joe’s work confounds concrete definition of purpose and creation while echoing familiar objects in form. In this show Joe plays with forms that vary from the apartment fixture to the minimalist object and even language itself. Please join us this Friday, April 15 (7-10pm) for the opening of 850K: Joe Mault at Kirk’s Apartment.

That I Know That I Know That I Am Doing This
Cameron Welch and Jaeuk SongWhen talking to painter Cameron Welch and performance artist Jaeuk Song we began thinking and wondering about the mindsets and mechanics of conversation (When I speak to you I project myself onto you, I imagine your experience within my own flesh) and how it would look through the work of these two very different artists. As conversationalists Cameron and Jae have produced a space of agreements and tangents that culminate as good company.
The work in this show is an index of learning and awareness between both the artists and curators involved and how we become strange to ourselves through a dialogue.Curated by Kirk Faber and Hannah Manfredi
Exhibited at 5470 S Hyde Park Blvd on Saturday, January 30th -
